Bottle Collecting Tips |
|
Keep a good list of bottles and preferably pictures. This helps from getting doubles, makes online trading easier and helps for insurance claims in case of damage or loss. Some collectors use paraffin wax to seal bottles and help prevent evaporation. This is a personal preference , there are collectors that prefer they have sealed bottles and others that don't want wax on bottles. Some collectors prefer bottles to be full, others don't care. With Ceramic containers many collectors will empty the container. One reason is that you can't see if there is liquid in a ceramic container (and clear glass bottles look better with liquid in them in my opinion). Also it prevents the liquid from staining the container should it start to leak out. A bottle Club is one of the best places to get bottles, you will normally find better quality bottles and knowledgeable people that will help with collecting. Online auctions are also a good place to find bottles but you should do your homework first. There have been some really great deals on e-bay but I have also seen bottles sell for more than they really should. Trading with collectors is another good way to get some quality bottles. That common double bottle you have may be quite valuable to a collector overseas and their common bottles may be quite uncommon to you. Check out our traders page to find some quality trading partners. Here is a good article about dating your bottles (telling their age that is, not taking them out to dinner). It is found on the Port Nicholson Mini Bottle Club Website. Jim Crawford gets the credit for most of this information. Here is a nice general article on collecting mini bottles it is from the UK Mini Bottle club website. It contains lots of information on collecting and good information on specialization. David Hamilton & Ken Copleston get credit for this information. Contact other collectors, most Mini bottle collectors love to meet new bottle collectors. You can find a list of collectors on our links page. Most Importantly: HAVE FUN COLLECTING!!! |
